Zydeco Breakfast at Cafe Des Amis

Start your Saturday morning off with a high energy, fun-filled Zydeco breakfast at Cafe Des Amis. Famous throughout Louisiana and beyond Cafe Des Amis is a must visit when you are in the area. People start lining up early so plan on being at the cafe a good 45 to 60 minutes before opening to have the best chance at grabbing a seat. Doors open at 8 am. and the rollocking Zydeco music and dancing begins promptly at 8:30 am. You are sure to have a great day when it begins with the Zydeco breakfast at Cafe Des Amis.

Seating is first come, first serve. If you are a party of 2 sitting at a table that seats 8 you will be joined by 6 other people. This is a community event and a great opportunity to meet new people. The breakfast menu has lots of delicious choices. You’ll want to be sure to order some beignets, they are fabulous.

If, by some chance, you don’t get a seat for breakfast you will be given a buzzer to notify you when seats become available. While you are waiting for a table you are welcome to enjoy a drink or break in your dancing shoes by taking a few spins around the dance floor. No worries if you don’t bring a dance partner to Cafe Des Amis, during my visit there were a number of gentleman that asked the single ladies for a dance.

Once the music begins you can’t help but feel it from the top of your head to the soles of your feet which will want to tap along to the Zydeco rhythms. The musical acts change weekly, but regardless of who is playing you will hear great music. There is an unspoken rule at Cafe Des Amis that when the band finishes its set (usually an hour long) that the tables are turned over for waiting guests.

You are welcome to stay and enjoy the music through 11 am. when the band stops playing.If you want the fun to continue you can join the cajun jam that starts a block away after the music ends at Cafe Des Amis.
