Enjoy a Girls Day Out in Historic Downtown Frankfort, IL

Quaint, historic and close to home, Frankfort, IL, located in the Chicago Southland, is a wonderful place to spend the day with your girlfriends. Wander around the streets where you’ll find eclectic shopping, dining, sweet treats, and if you time it right a fun festival happening in the city park.

The first stop should be to the Pickwick Society Tea Room.  This charming tearoom will entice you with a wonderful selections of tea and will make you want to pull up a chair and stay a while.

The staff is wonderful and knowledgeable and makes you feel right at home. Our group each ordered a different tea which was served in the most adorable tea pots and cups. It was a great way to try a diverse selection of teas. I ordered  Blood Orange tea and it was fabulous.

Throughout the year the Pickwick hosts Timely Tea events about historic figures. These events sell out quickly so be sure to plan ahead and buy tickets ASAP. The next event is Tea with Harriett Beecher Stowe on Sunday, February 23 at either 12:30 or 3p.m. The tea will be based on her life right after the first printing of Uncle Tom’s Cabin and cost $40 to attend.  Other upcoming Timely Teas include: Mark Twain, Louisa May Alcott, Dolley Madison, and Jackie Kennedy.

Oh, did I mention we had snacks while at Pickwick? Tea is always better with a cookie and a biscuit. I loved everything about the tea room from it’s beautiful dishes, comfortable atmosphere, to it’s wonderful selection of teas and gifts.

After spending a leisurely hour or two at the tea shop it’s time to go shopping! A complete list of stores can be found here.

A stop at the pet store, Chew On This, resulted in finding new toys and treats for Pippie and BB. The owner took the time to learn about our dogs and then made great suggestions on what toys would be best for them.

We loved wandering around and stopping to shop in the boutique stores that line the streets.  Yarn, knick knacks, clothing, chocolate, pet store and so much more await to be discovered.

All the shop keepers were  friendly and willing to chat or answer any questions that we had. Of course, shopping in Frankfort wouldn’t be complete without a stop at the local confectionary store, Kernel Sweet Tooth.  They have so many great treats. Cookies, candy, ice cream, shaved ice, gourmet caramel apples and so much more. We had lunch at a brand new cafe, White Street Cafe, where we enjoyed delicious sandwiches.

We had so much fun in Frankfort. We were scheduled to only spend 3 hours in Frankfort and ended up spending the day. Frankfort is located just south of Chicago and is a perfect destination for a girl’s day out.
