Everyone has seen it in the movies: A fancy car with tinted windows rumbles along a private airstrip and pulls up next to a shining jet. A perfectly put-together woman or dapper man, and images from the back seat holding nothing but a phone while their luggage spirits away to the cargo hold. Immaculately made-up and uniformed hostesses greet them as they make their way up the steps to the aircraft and hand them a cocktail or glass of champagne. The flight goes by in a blur of perfectly lit Instagram photos, caviar served over ice, and cashmere knee blankets. That’s the movie, but what is it like to fly on a private jet in reality? Is it different as a family than it would be alone? We have the information to share.

Private Family Travel

Opportunities to book travel experiences that aren’t entirely “kid-focused” but are still kid-appropriate and enjoyable are few and far between, so snatching the chance to fly on a private plane was a no-brainer. Booking private jet travel for a family, whether your kids are very young or young adults, provides many family benefits that are otherwise inaccessible on a commercial flight.

There is a lot of stress that usually accompanies flying: Getting the kids up at an unreasonable hour to make a flight, wrangling the family while moving through a crowded airport where kids could get distracted and run off, frustrations bubbling to the surface while wasting time in long, slow-moving check-in lines, no freedom to move around the cabin, spread out or be as loud as a funny joke or silly movie demands. All this changes on a private flight, making it a much more family-friendly experience. Starting or ending a trip with a private flight makes the whole family’s vacation much more pleasant and less stressful.

Solo Travel

What is more luxurious than traveling alone? Packing for one, only having to organize yourself, and having no one to consult on the schedule or activities. Flying on a private jet is a great way to enhance that luxury feeling and take it to the next level, even when you’re on your own. Why? You deserve nice things that are just for you.

Traveling solo and booking a private flight rather than a commercial one minimizes all the airport and travel stressors listed above. It also makes you feel like a real-life celebrity, even if just for a few hours. As a woman traveling alone, the level of safety and privacy you find on a private jet can be especially worth it. It can be challenging to relax while traveling from one place to another. No strangers are going to harass you, and no one will touch you without your consent when you have all that time to yourself! You’ll be free to enjoy the experience.

The Private Jet Experience

The image of private jet travel in the movies isn’t far from what it’s like in real life. From the second you board your jet, the cabin crew makes you feel welcome and helps you feel safe and comfortable. You will receive an official welcome from the crew, including welcome drinks and a tour of the aircraft to get you situated and help you find everything you need. Your luggage will have been stowed while you and your party are boarding, and there’s no need to worry about lost or damaged luggage as the crew managing a private flight are the best of the best!

The crew will settle you into your seats and ask you to buckle your seatbelts for takeoff, just like on any other flight. They will open all windows, stow anything that may roll around, and then take their seats while the plane ascends.

Once cruising altitude is reached, the private jet experience can begin. Once everyone is comfy in their seats, the cabin crew will see about getting you all fed. Depending on the size of your private jet, there may or may not be a full galley- this will dictate whether you can access freshly prepared meals on board or have access to delicious, pre-prepared options. Some private jet hire companies allow you to order your favorite takeout for the journey, or perhaps you’ll want to choose from the company’s existing menu. Dietary restrictions and allergies are easier to accommodate when the crew or chef is cooking for a private party, so you know you’re getting safe and good food.

Once everyone has their meals, you can relax and enjoy your flight time however you like. A coffee table and a couch may be useful for playing board games, getting work done, trying on outfits for your trip, or watching movies with your party.

Smaller jets have seats facing each other, but they are so plush and comfortable, it’ll be like being on a small bed. Read, enjoy your favorite film, nap, or revel in the freedom to do however you like to pass the time. The cabin crew are discreet and don’t hover: they will watch you to ensure you have everything you need, but they will never be in your way or around too much. Need help with your seat or a cup of hot chocolate refill? All you need to do is ask, and the well-trained and friendly cabin crew will be there to help in the blink of an eye.

Disembarking follows the same process as boarding, just in reverse. The flight crew will help you gather up all your things and make sure they are stowed. You will then be seated and buckled in with the windows open for landing. Once the plane has landed, they’ll help you down the stairs if needed. You will receive your luggage and be fresh, excited, and ready to move on to the next part of your trip.

A Reality That Beats the Movies

Traveling on a private jet is a dream. It’s just like what you imagine it will be: A once-in-a-lifetime experience that feels just as exciting if you do it more than once. It is the fastest, most entertaining way to travel.
