We are big advocates of buying local foods. I fully believe in trying to support our local farmers as best we can. We have belonged to a CSA for two years now plus we grow some of our own veggies.

In addition, we love going to farmers markets. Last weekend was the last outdoor farmers market for the year in our area. I was very sad 🙁 The best local one is in Traverse City, a town about 45 miles north of us. We usually trek up there a couple times during the summer to see what they have.

Lots of honey this time of year and we were able to still find some tomatoes:

Fall goodness from Second Spring Farm (Leelanau County)

Fall Pot Roast Medley.  I love how cute these look all put together.  Last time we were up they had fresh salsa boxes…adorable:

Oh the apples, lots and lots of apples.

Cute mini squash and pumpkins.

Don’t forget to support your local farmers during the long winter. Lots of farmers still have eggs, meat, cheese, and some hardy veggies. My CSA harvest veggies well into November using hoop houses to extend their growing season.

Not sure where to find local farmers check out these sites:

Pick Your Own.org

Local Harvest.org

SlowFoodUSA.org

Also, don’t forget to check your local Craigslist. Often times I find ads for farm fresh eggs and fruit on Craigslist.

Want to check out some great gardening sites? These are two of my favorites:

Garden Notes 2010 Sue is a local blogger that lives nearby….someday we’ll meet. She is an amazing gardener and I love watching her garden bloom and grow. Her photos encourage me to get busy with my own garden.

Chiots Run I believe Chiot’s Run is in Ohio, so another cold climate gardener. Wonderful photos and helpful tips.

Hope you are safe and warm where ever you may be.

I think it's more cozy where you live, and your farmers market, than where I live. Ours is in a busy parking lot, off the 5 freeway with six lanes of traffic on each side. I live south of Los Angeles. You're in Michigan right? My son lives in Ann Arbor. What a beautiful place.

Oh, aren't you the funny one! Yes—I stood in front of my huge window, coffee in hand and the BIGGEST smile on my face. Now if it would only stick!! I've got my ski's set to go!!!
    😀
Have you tried Fruitfull Hill Produce in Manton? It's Amish run-and they have the most wonderful eggs on the planet, inexpensive spices, nice produce, all very reasonably priced…..except their chickens, which I refer to as Solid Gold Chickens. They charged me and arm and a leg for them (but they were GOOD!). No chemicals. Nom Nom!
Have a great weekend, Deb, and thanks for the laugh!
