I already love Dyson vacuums. I’m particular to the stick vacuum. That has quickly become our family favorite and it is the one I use all the time. When I heard about a hair dryer by the same company I was absolutely eager to give it a try. It is aptly named the Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer and supersonic is right. I mean, really, did we expect any less?
The first thing I notice about the hair dryer is that it has some heft to it. It only weighs 1.8 pounds but compared to my hairdryer it feels heavy. I will say the cord is very solid and long, 9 ft long to be exact, so no worries about nearby outlets or the cord fraying at any point in time.
As soon as I plug it in and turn it on I see why they call it supersonic. This hair dryer has some serious power behind it. Because it has so much power I highly recommend using one of the included attachments. There is a smoothing, diffuser and styling concentrator. The cool thing about these attachments is that they are magnetic and easily attach to the hair dryer.
Without using an attachment, lol.
The smoothing attachment dries hair gently using a wide swath of air that allows you to dry and style at the same time. The styling concentrator uses focused air that lets you style one section at a time without disturbing already styled sections. The diffuser dries evenly around curly hair, giving it a natural dry look with reduced frizz.
According to Dyson, the Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer helps prevent extreme heat damage because the air temperature is measured 20 times every second, keep the temperature completely under control. Because of this drying is quick with controlled, high-velocity airflow. There are 3 precise speed settings. Fast drying, regular drying, and styling. 4 heat settings: constant cold, low, medium, and high.
I do like the diffuser attachment.
Now, here is the nitty gritty. The Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer is an investment at a retail price of $399. Personally, I would have a hard time paying that much for a hair dryer. However, I don’t use a hair dryer on a daily basis so for me it’s not worth the investment. The investment price point will vary for everyone. I will say, if you are a hairdresser and are looking for a new hairdryer to use for work this might be a great investment. It looks pretty awesome so it does give that WOW factor.
