Essential oils seem to be all the rage right now. I can’t go a day without seeing a post about essential oils in my Facebook stream. I began reading all these great things that essential oils can cure, but no one really shared exactly how to use the oils and how they worked. Since I like well researched information and not just hear say I decided to find a book to help decipher the essential oil world. After a bit of research I decided to order The Complete Aromatherapy & Essential Oils Handbook for Everyday Wellness.
This book comes in at well over 450 pages and offers 109 essential oils and more than 450 remedies and uses. Part 1 of the book focuses on the oils. The properties, oils from A to Y, fixed oils and butters and infused oils. Part 2 covers remedies while Part 3 talks about aromatherapy for daily living.
I appreciate that the author covers the basis of oils in part 1. I think you need a good understanding of what the oils are in order to start using them for medical and non-medical uses. Each oil is listed with its common name, it’s botanical name, a description of the oil and its uses. If any oil has a reason for concern there is a caution box on the margin of the page.
Part 2 lists many, many conditions and remedies. The conditions sections covers just about everything you can imagine. Abrasions, arteriosclerosis, back pain, blood pressure, cellulite, digestive problems, headaches, stress, sore throats, and women’s health to name a few. This section is the majority of the book covering over 200 pages. I checked out the remedy for heartburn. The remedy was simple enough to mix up. A bit of oil, some honey and water and that is all you need. I thumbed through a few more recipes and they all looked pretty straight forward, which I really appreciate.
The final section is all about aromatherapy for daily living. Highlights include skin care, hair care and body care. Learn how to make shampoos, face cleansers, bath oil blends and more. This section also includes recipes to treat skin and hair issues.
