Beginners Guide to RV Camping

Moving from van camping to camping in an RV was a big step up. This style of camping requires a few more skills than just parking the van and inflating an air mattress.

So, for all my friends and readers this beginners guide to RV camping is for you.

BEFORE YOU ARRIVE AT THE CAMPGROUND

You’ll want to make sure that you have the proper hookups for sewer, electric and cable.

Be sure to check with the RV dealer to ensure you have the proper items.

Before you even fasten up your seat belt to drive to the campground make sure you reserve a campground site that is pull through site.

Honestly, this will save you having to back up the RV in a tight or wooded site that could make a new RVer very nervous.

WHAT TO PACK FOR RV CAMPING

If you’ve been tent camping packing for your RV experience is pretty much the same except skip the tent 🙂

Here are some of the items we packed, your list may vary depending on your families needs.

Bedding & Pillows
Kitchen supplies: pots, pans, plates, bowls, silverware, cooking utensils, paper towels, dish soap, and foil
Food for the RV and cooking over the campfire
Bath towels, wash clothes, and toilet paper
Inflatable kayaks
Camp chairs
Marshmallow roasting sticks

HOOKING UP THE RV AT THE CAMPSITE

When you are packing for your RV camping adventure be sure to note what side of the RV has the hookups.

As you pull onto your campsite make sure that your hookups face the side that has the campsite hookups.

You’ll want to be near enough to the hookups to easily attach to the sewer and electric.

So, hooking up the RV to electric and sewer is soooo easy.

Simply pull the hose out of the side storage and screw into the sewer opening.

Take the electrical plug from the side storage and plug it into the outlet box and then flip the box from off to on.

Done and done.

We never used the cable but it’s just as easy to attach your cable cord to their system.

MOVING THE SLIDE OUT

Moving the slide out is as easy as pushing a button. However, you absolutely must make sure that the parking brake is set on the RV AND the engine is running or the slide out will not move.

Don’t ask how we know that. It may have taken a good bit of digging through the owners manual to figure it out.

MOVING THE AWNING

Honestly, simply push a button and the awning moves out. Push it again and it moves it back in. Easy peasy.

You won’t want to leave the awning out in windy weather because it becomes a big old kite.
