One year ago today I looked fear in the eye, told it to back the hell off and jumped off the proverbial cliff. I quit my soul sucking job (the jump), started doing the things I love (write & travel) and haven’t regretted it for one moment.
Here’s the most important thing that happened when I said yes to embracing the life I was meant to live instead of just going through the motions of being stuck in a rut: Life became fun again. So simple right? Life should be fun, or at least enjoyable, everyday, but that was not my life.
This past year has been so unbelievable. Amazing things really happened when I started saying yes to my life and stopped sitting on the sidelines. It took having a bit more faith in myself and a little more belief that I am worthy of having good things happen.
Here’s a quick recap of what has happened this past year:
1. Built Just Short Of Crazy to a point where it is being recognized as an influential blog.
2. 3 week road trip to Yellowstone.
3. 3 week road trip to North/South Carolina & Florida.
4. Attended the Taste of the NFL in Indianapolis.
5. Met Ms. Brown in NYC at the M&M Museum.
6. Numerous short trips around the great state of Michigan.
7. Visited Domino’s Pizza headquarters.
8. Attended the Travel Blogger Exchange–made a bunch of new friends and met my favorite travel bloggers.
9. Quick trip to Baltimore/Washington DC.
10. Work from home or wherever in the world I happen to be<<—BEST thing ever!
I’ve had a lot of travel adventures. Not having to cram all the travel I want to do into a 3 week time frame has been one of the best things ever. I’m so glad that I stopped waiting and started living.
My advice to you–STOP waiting! You don’t have forever. You have right now. Embrace it and do the things you love.
REMEMBER:
Good for you Deb, you totally deserve it!!
Can I just say how jealous I am of you! I hate my job, but can’t afford to quit! Can you live a little more for me, please? 🙂
Love that! Good for you, Deb. Well deserved.
It’s great to see such a happy update to your story! I, too, am always gripped with fear of trying new things. Your post in inspiring! Wishing you continued happiness and success!
How exciting! I’m sure it hasn’t all been roses, but you’re still out there doing what you want; OK, I admit it–I am jealous too. Congratulations on a great achievement though, not everyone is brave enough to step off that cliff.
congratulations to you for taking that leap. I took my own leap 12 years ago, and have had a wonderful, more stress free life. My husband and I have lived and worked in some of the most beautiful places in Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Kansas, Arizona, and Texas. We work at campgrounds, national forests, and national parks. We are so lucky to get to live for six months out of the year at the Grand Canyon for the last 5 years. It just takes a little bit of facing the fear, and taking a giant leap, to live an outstanding life.
So inspiring! The fear of “what if” holds a lot of us back daily! We should all take note and follow our dreams. We deserve it.
I hope everything continues to work out beautifully.
I am SO excited for you… and jealous. We have the time now, just not the heath and cash.
I will live my travels through you vicariously.
You sound so happy and fulfilled, good for you! =)
I’m glad it’s working out so well for you! As you know, I did the same thing in October, and while it’s had it’s rough moments, it has been great.
I’m so glad you took control of your life and are enjoying every minute of it. Congratulations.
That is amazing! I think fear of “trying” is what holds many of us back. When I quit my job I did it to stay home with my children. I also haven’t regretted it. So happy for you!!
Huge congrats!!! So happy for you!!
Say YES to chickens…what the heck 🙂 yes to the coffee…i’ll email ya.
Jen, thank you. It still feels a bit surreal, but I am loving every minute of this new, crazy life.
Good luck in your travels. Be sure to share your stories. Hope you are out of the valley of despair soon. Sending hugs your way.
Good for you and so glad you’re living your dreams. I’m taking a break, going through the valley of despair for a season, but looking forward to a trip to XSM soon followed by a trip to NYC.
Thinking about a trip to Turkey next year.
You are AWESOME. I love this, and I know you were doing great things but it’s awesome to hear that you actually did it deliberately, and by facing fear. I can’t wait to see what the next year brings for you!!
So, you’re saying I should say YES to chickens? LOL
You have had one amazing year. Got time for a cup of coffee????
