There is just something about having a pet that makes life so much better. It’s hard to explain to people that don’t have pets, but for those that do I’m sure you understand exactly what I’m talking about. My maltipoo, BB (which stands for Brutus the Barbarian–small dog, big name), is always a joy to have around. Make no mistake about it he isn’t just a pet to use, but a member of the family. Here are my favorite 5 tips for a happy dog.
5 TIPS FOR A HAPPY DOG
SHARE TREATS: Some treats aren’t safe for pets to eat, but others are ok in moderation. Alan always lets BB lick his spoon after he is done eating ice cream. BB will sit patiently while Alan enjoys his cool treat and is thrilled when it’s his turn for a taste. [Yes, Alan eats the ice cream directly out of the container. We are the only two at home and I seldom eat any. Saves on washing dishes.]
TRAVEL TOGETHER: BB takes a lot of road trips and travels with us as often as possible. His favorite place to visit is my sister’s houses to play with her dog. He does really well in the car and has his own seat where he, generally, stays. Depending on his mood thought he might sit in my lap or if we are driving slowly through a town he’ll beg to put his head out the window. I usually comply, because life is meant to be lived happily and a head out the window is one of his greatest joys.
Time With Friends: This is a big one. Just like only children need playmates so do only dogs. We try to make sure BB gets together with other furry friends as much as possible. Here he is with Xing, my sister’s dog, who he loves visiting.

Size of the dog doesn’t matter. This is Pippie, Em’s dog, as a puppy. She is now 70 pounds, but they are still pals, well, when it suits BB they are pals 😉
MENTAL STIMULATION: A dog’s life is usually pretty easy and laid back. I know BB sleeps for big portions of the day, but I still want to make sure that he has things in his life that makes it more enjoyable. We have toys on rotation and every couple weeks we’ll either pull a couple out of the storage box and put the ones he’s been playing with away or I’ll bring a new toy home. Just like all of us, he likes new shiny toys and I don’t mind spoiling him.
GOOD FOOD: Of course, I want him to have the very best food possible so I feed him CESAR® Home Delights™. The gourmet dog food options include pot roast with spring vegetables, slow cooked chicken, beef stew, hearty chicken noodle, and beef stroganoff. What’s not to love? He gets to eat food very similar to our food which makes me feel good about what he is eating and makes him a very happy dog.
