I’m just going to put this out there. I do not like exercise. Not even a little bit.

This is not a good thing especially since I spend so much time in front of the computer.

So, I started thinking. What could I do that gets me moving that doesn’t feel like exercise?

I came up with a list of 20 activities for people that hate exercise like me.

Hopefully, one of these ideas will get you up and moving if only for a few minutes every day.

Lord knows I’m feeling the lack of movement in my joints and in how tired I am all. the. time!!! My fingers are crossed that we’ll all start feeling better if we start moving a bit more.

Be sure to let me know what activities you would add to this list.

20 Activities For People That Hate Exercise

1. Geocaching. If you aren’t familiar with geocaching it’s a modern-day treasure hunt. When the kids were younger we used to do this all the time. It’s a fun way to get outside with a purpose.

2. Bike ride. Keep your bike riding skills sharp. Grab a bike and go for a spin around the block. Eventually, bike a mile or two. Before you know if you’ll be riding for miles and miles. My favorite bike is the beach cruiser bike.

3. Antiquing and/or thrift shopping. Grab a $20 and head out to the antique and thrift stores and see how much you can buy for $20 that you can resell on ebay or similar to double or triple your money.

4. Hunt for beach glass and/or seashells. You don’t have to live next to an ocean to go on a beach hunt. Any large body of water has potential to find something interesting. I know we’ve found beach glass and great stones along the shores of the Great Lakes.

Kayak hilton head

5. Kayak. There is something very relaxing about floating on the water in a kayak. The biggest challenge comes when trying to get in and out of the kayak, but the actual kayaking part is pretty simple.

6. Disc golf. This is an activity that my kids really love. It does look like fun I’ve just never gotten around to trying it. Basically, toss a frisbee towards a basket, repeat.

7. Ziplining. This is for my adventurous friends! Fly through the air and get the adrenaline moving through your body. Ziplining is becoming more and more popular so there is, most likely, a ziplining place near you.

8. Birding. Take a walk to the watering holes of birds that live in your area year-round or that visit during migration season.

9. Photography. Walk around, take a hike, photograph what you see. Master the art of landscape photography or street art or whatever strikes your fancy.

10. Outdoor club. Besides being a way to get outside and move this is a great way to meet new people. Having to answer to others in sometimes enough incentive to stick to a plan.

Secret Cleveland

11. Travel Book. Buy a travel book like Secret Cleveland and visit places mentioned in the book

12. Yoga. I think this is a great activity for those that hate exercise. It can be as easy or as difficult as you like. There is even chair yoga activities so really no excuse for not moving more.

13. Party Bike. Remember, this list is about finding ways to move more not about saving calories so go ahead and grab some friends and take a party bike around your town or one nearby.

14. Adult only fun. Ask your partner for help and get down and dirty, do some horizontal mambo. Y’all know what I’m talking about. Make sure it’s rambunctious so you can burn some calories while having a really good time.

15. Dance. Turn up your favorite tunes (for me that is ABBA or some 80’s hair bands or Mumford & Sons) and dance for 10 or 15 minutes in your kitchen, living room or even your backyard. Tear it up like no one is watching.

16. Search for Bigfoot. Yes, I’m serious. You could be the first to find Bigfoot, but you have to go out into the woods and look. Wondering how one looks for Bigfoot? Watch a couple episodes of Finding Bigfoot and you’ll be up to speed on what to do 🙂

Roswell Ghost Tours

17. Take a ghost or historical walking tour. These are a lot of fun. I try to always do one of these tours when visiting a new area but there is probably a tour in your town or one near year. Often times towns have a self-guided tour as well so there is no cost involved.

18. Clean the house. Yeah, it’s everyone’s least favorite activity but if you clean with a lot of energy its good for the body and good for the house.

19. Join a bowling league. I have a friend (hey, hey Val) that bowls on a couple bowling leagues. She swears it doesn’t feel like exercise but it has to be burning through a few calories PLUS its movement, which is our goal.

Colombia Coffee

20. Take A Coffee Break. Instead of meeting at the coffee shop and sitting at a table. Grab a coffee at the coffee shop then walk while you talk. Win. Win.

BONUS: SUGGESTIONS FROM READERS

21. Gardening. Digging in the dirt is a great way to stretch those muscles AND the end results is always fantastic! (Thanks Kath)
