cold and flu buster recipes
I recently attended a flu buster workshop led by the holistic health rock star Sandy Gaunt and learned some fabulous recipes. I’ve been making and taking her super tonic recipe for over a year now and I swear by it. I can suffer awful, especially during allergy season and the Super Tonic keeps me going. I can’t say enough good stuff about it. I’ve already tried the tea we made which was rather tasty and I’m waiting for the Echinacea Plus to be done so I can try that.

If I start feeling a little under the weather I start taking the Super Tonic and within a day or two I’m back to feeling like myself. Ideally, I would remember to take the tonic everyday so I would never get that under the weather feeling, but that doesn’t usually happen.

Anywho, I’ve been meaning to share a few recipes with you for a while now. There are three recipes to help you beat the cold and flu season. Super Tonic, Echinacea Plus, and Immune Booster Tea.

DISCLAIMER: I am NOT a doctor, nor do I pretend to be one on the internet. You should ALWAYS check with your doctor before taking any herbal remedies, especially if you are on medications or have health issues. Use caution when taking herbs with any medication. Use of the recipes below is at your own risk. Consult your doctor if you have a heart condition, high blood pressure or glaucoma. Do not take if pregnant or give to children under 2. When in doubt ASK YOUR DOCTOR.

Ok, are we all clear on the disclaimer? I’m sharing here because I’ve had really good success with the Super Tonic and I am amazed at how much better it makes me feel. Your mileage may vary, but if your doctor says its ok I think you should give it a try.

Before we get to the recipes did you know that eating too much sugar, particularly fructose, and too many grains can actually depress your immune system? As can having a Vitamin D deficiency, and not getting enough rest or exercise (oy, I’m guilty of both of those). I guess my point is that if you are struggling with staying healthy you should look to your diet and lifestyle to see if that could be the culprit.

I take the super tonic twice a day. Once in the morning and once at night. I’ve just made a batch of Echinacea Plus. It takes a couple weeks to brew. It will be done in mid-November and I’ll have it on hand to use when I’m really trying to boost my immune system. I pull out the Immune Booster Tea when I start having sniffles and watery eyes. After so many years of having to run to the doctor for medicine its nice to find a nature remedy for my allergy, sinus and cold symptoms.

SUPER TONIC RECIPE

Ingredients
1 whole garlic bulb, peeled
1 inch fresh gingerroot
1 inch fresh horseradish
1 small hot pepper
1/4 small onion
2 cups raw organice apple cider vinegar with mother <

Directions
Put all ingredients in a blender. Pulse until chopped (just a few seconds). Pour into glass jar and shake daily for 2-3 weeks. Strain liquid into a dark glass jar and keep in pantry. Discard solids. I keep in a small medicine bottle with dropper type top (found on amazon here). Take two dropperful in 2 ounce of water one to three times a day. I find that this taste just like a strong version of italian dressing.
